MSAD #53 supports the Maine Learning Technology Initiative and
strongly believes in the merits of the program. This project is about
teaching and learning, not about the computer. The iBook is an
educational tool that will allow us access to valuable resources and
learning experiences. We believe the use of these tools will help support
our District’s Mission and support the students in achieving our
educational goals.
Each
Apple iBook and carrying case issued to students are the property of the
State of Maine, and registered to Warsaw Middle School. Participating
in the Maine Learning Technology Initiative (Laptop Project) is a
privilege, not a right. This privilege can be revoked, resulting in
the loss of student’s iBook. The iBooks are assigned to the student and
his/her family and MUST be returned at the end of each school year. The
rules and restrictions governing iBooks use in MSAD #53 are local and made
in the best interest of all participants in our school community. Teachers
will have administrative controls to oversee student computer use. At any
time a teacher may monitor a student's computer activity, assist a
student, or take appropriate disciplinary action.
MSAD
#53 supports the idea of students taking the iBooks home after all the
necessary training and consent forms are signed. The specific details of
the procedures that govern the iBook use can be found in the Warsaw Middle
School Laptop Guide. The procedures will be reviewed at the parent
training session(s) required before the iBooks are allowed to leave the
school. Replacement costs and/or repairs for damages that occur to the
iBook and its carrying case while it is signed out are the sole
responsibility of the parent/guardian.
